An over-50 meetup was out of the question for me

Never say "never"! How true those words are. About six months ago, my daughter Melanie decided I should sign up for a dating site. The name: "Over 50 Meetup". The name alone gave me a stomachache. Thanks for reminding me of my milestone birthday. Two years ago I turned 50. No man in sight. Back then I felt like I only ever met disasters. All those happy couples out on the street. And I'm attractive and people guess me to be 10 years younger.

My Melanie was absolutely convinced: something has to happen now! Little did I suspect what that would set in motion!

Over-50 Meetup - Never Trust a Daughter

Young women at 18 have no scruples these days. After I refused to sign up for a dating site, she did it for me. Not a word did she breathe. Instead, she took my latest vacation photos from Thailand and signed me up on the Over 50 Meetup site.

She cheerfully chatted with the men and told me afterward, "Mom, I was just scouting. A good assistant does that!"

One evening she crept around me like a snake. Something was up with her, but I couldn't put my finger on it. Suddenly she said to me, "You need to sit down. I have something to tell you."

In short, she told me about her "Over 50 Meetup" challenge. I had no idea how to react. My nickname was "Black Beauty". In any case, she had found the dream guy for me, and I was supposed to take over the ship.

After my initial speechlessness, it was fine. This was a very special man. I was impressed by how well he expressed himself, and I liked his photos. The problem for Melanie was that he wanted to talk on the phone.

Over-50 Meetup - He Came, He Saw, He Conquered

I slept on it for one more night and finally logged in to Over 50 Meetup. Since I wanted to be honest from the start, I told Tim how it all came about. He took it in stride, and we talked on the phone for over 2 hours that very evening.

We hit it off right away, and we met 10 days later. What can I say, Tim and I are inseparable today. Everything went very fast, and it was clear to us that we wanted to walk the rest of life's path together.

Only 30 miles separated us, and we've already talked about him moving in with us. After the divorce I got the big house, and there's room for all of us! Oh, and Melanie thinks he's great!
